Executive committee member for the Ghana Football Association, Dr Tony Aubyn has revealed the various reasons why the Ghana Premier League has no headline sponsor yet.

The administration of Kurt Okraku has not been able to secure a leading sponsor for the Ghana Premier League when they came to power. This has led to a lot backlash from the football fraternity on the current football handlers in Ghana.

Speaking on Friday Night Football on Starr FM, Dr Tony Aubyn accepted that it has been difficult getting a headline sponsor but getting it would ease the pressure on the clubs.

“It doesn’t work easily like that to get a sponsor. This particular league has got a quite number if sponsorships though there is no headline sponsor. I am one of those who are keen to ensuring we have a headline sponsor because it makes life easier because some clubs are struggling”. he said.

He revealed that the the Anas Exposé and the COVID-19 are factors that have hindered the GFA from getting a headline sponsor.

“As I said, we have come out of two Covids, the Covid-Anas and the Covid- Covid. These two truncated out league and system. Companies who would like to invest their money in the league will think twice because of the situation. It is not that easy”. He said

He also revealed that the fact that the Ghanaian league has not been able to attract investors due to its inability to play attractive football. According to him, the Ghana Premier League story has been soiled.

“I would not deny that we have not been able to play football so well to attract major sponsorships. If for almost two seasons there was no football, and the story was placed in a mud, who would like to put money in a situation like that? The image of the GFA has been bladly brewed and we need to unpack that.” He added.

The EXCO Member believes the football climate in Ghana needs to be clear and attractive to investors.
