Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has revealed the governing football body of Ghana will not beg players to play for Ghana.

Ghana qualified for the 2022 Qatar World Cup after beating the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the playoffs on Tuesday.

The likes of Elisha Owusu, Dennis Odoi and Afena Gyan were called for the all important game and made their debuts in the two-legged encounter.

There have been calls by some fans to include players notably Mohammed Salisu and Tarique Lamptey to play for the national team at the World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking exclusively to GHOne Sports, he said they would not pursue players who have no desire to play for Ghana

“Whoever is eligible to play for Ghana will be given the opportunity. I don’t think we need to beg players to play or represent the country at the international level.” He said.

He also said the GFA has given many players born abroad the opportunity to represent the country and thus only those who are willing will be given the opportunity.

“We have given many players the chance and it dates back to Kim Grant, to Tony Baffoe and to Otto Addo who were not all born in Ghana. So whoever is willing will be given the opportunity.” He added.
