Chef de mission for Ghana at the Commonwealth games, Fred Acheampong has confirmed Boxer Shakul samed has been suspended for testing positive to a banned substance upon his arrival in Birmingham.

Shakur samed’s opponent, Rosalba Jean Luc was given a walk over after the Ghanaian Boxer failed to show up at the weigh-in.

The Commonwealth games federation later released a statement explaining Shakur has been suspended with immediate effect after he tested positive to a banned substance.

But Ghana’s Chef de mission at the Commonwealth Games Fred Achie tells EIB’s Betty Yawson in Birmingham that Shakur will go through another test.

“He didn’t turn up for weigh-in because of medical issues. Upon his arrival in Birmingham his samples were taken and they found some of the listed banned substance in his urine. But they will do another test to confirm”

Ghana recorded its first win in boxing at the Commonwealth Games on Friday following Abdul Wahid Omar’s victory over Jamie Devine by a split decision.
