Asamoah Gyan

Executive Council member Dr.Tony Auyben has backed formwe black stars captain Asamoah Gyan’s decision to stage a comeback into the team for the 2022 world Cup in Qatar .

Gyan’s last appearance for the country was during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations game against Tunisia and despite the long absence from the national team, the player is yet to retire from international football.

The 36-year-old’s last competitive season came during the 202/21 Ghana Premier League season where he featured five times for Legon Cities.

In an interview with BBC’s John Bennett, Gyan admitted he is not fully fit at the moment and is working hard to be in a good shape.
Many has criticised him for revelling his plans of wanting to make a record fourth appearance at the mundial. But Dr.Tony Auyben believes if he is in good shape and the technical handlers of the Black Stars deem it necessary to invite him, it won’t be a problem.

“I think just like any Ghanaian which he is also one so if he feels that he still has a lot in him to offer why not but all this will solely depend on the technical handlers of the team”, he told Starr FM sports

“As he admitted that he will need to work on himself and be in top shape and we all know Gyan when he is fit ,he can do a lot but as I said if he feels he cannot ,I don’t think he would want to go and disgrace himself at that top level” Dr.Tony Auyben added.
