A policy think-tank, the Institute of Economic Affairs(IEA) will later today hold talks with former President John Agyekum Kufuor on matters pertaining to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
IEA seeks to have the former President share his reflections and views on the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
The meeting will be held this afternoon at 2 pm at former President Kufuor’s Residence, Peduase.
The vast range of issues to be discussed during the engagement include the Council of State, the powers of the President, appointment of ministers from Parliament in a Presidential system, the local government system, the economy and constitutional arrangement, the financing of political parties, and Affirmative Action.
A memo sighted by Starrfm.com.gh inviting some political leaders for the said meeting indicated: “It is expected that the reviews collated under this project would shape and broaden the debate on the reform of the 1992 Constitution.”
It added: “Ultimately, it is expected that these would be considered when the Constitution is eventually reviewed.”
As part of its efforts to promote good governance and development in Ghana, the lEA is undertaking research and advocacy on provisions of the 1992 Constitution that in its view require reform.
