Telecommunication giants, MTN has presented assorted gifts to some 14 babies and their mothers in hospitals in Ho.

The beneficiaries are babies delivered on 25th and 26th December, 2022 at three selected hospitals in the Volta regional capital which include the Ho Teaching hospital (Trafalgar), Royal hospital and the Ho Municipal hospital.

The donation was executed by the MTN Foundation.

Team lead for the Volta and Oti regions, Mawuli Katahena during the presentation, indicated that MTN is delighted to welcome the new babies and their mothers by showing them love having gone through the pain of labour “just to  increase the country’s human resource.”

He observed that the number of new births this year has seen a decline (as of the time of their visit) as compared to the figures for 2021.

Mr. Katahena also took note of some of the challenges that confront the hospitals especially in the Maternity wards and reiterated the MTN Foundation’s commitment to supporting stakeholders in providing adequate infrastructure to improve upon service delivery.

At the Ho Teaching hospital, the resident Obstetric Gynecologist, Doctor Edu Ntiamoah said the facility is confronted with a number of challenges that need urgent attention.

According to him, there are only thirty-six (36) beds with only two (2) monitors to monitor high dependent cases.

He indicated that it is necessary every bed has a monitor to monitor patients all round the clock.

He stated further that the facility needs more automated beds and fetal monitoring machines.

Items presented by MTN Foundation include hampers which contain baby diapers, toys, baby napkins and detergents amongst others.
