Government is expected to announce a staff-level agreement today, December 13, 2022 in a joint Press conference between the Finance Ministry and the International Monetary Fund(IMF).

An IMF staff team led by Stéphane Roudet, Mission Chief for Ghana, has been in the country since December 1, in continuation of discussions with Ghanaian authorities on the country’s post-COVID-19 programme for economic growth and associated policies and reforms that could be supported by a new IMF lending arrangement.

A joint press conference will be held at 10am in the capital, Accra as the mission ends its two-week visit today.

As part of the negotiation with the Washington-based lender, authorities began restructuring the country’s debt from Monday, December 5,2022. The Debt Exchange Programme started with domestic debt.

This remains a major step in reaching a deal with the IMF to start a programme.
