Some sixty young persons have received a three month intensive training in Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Ho.

The beneficiaries are young people, most of whom are students from Ho Municipality of the Volta region.

The three month training was done by Genius IT, a non-profit making organisation based in the capital.

The beneficiaries were trained in web and graphic designing, programming, entrepreneurship in areas of business management, customer services, strategic business development value preposition and leadership.

The Volta Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA) Yao Semorde at the graduation ceremony held on Saturday, Febuary 11, 2023 said the NGO’s initiative is in line with what NYA “sees as a need to give young people the requisite skills especially in terms of IT”.

He made it known that, NYA is scheduled to launch “Skills towards Employability and Productivity” where some 28 youth in South Tongu District in the region are expected to be trained in various skills and also another set of 28 in Hohoe.

Kitsi Desmond, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Genuis IT told reporters that, the initiative is an effort to help the government implement Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

He added that his focus is on the youth of Volta region to enable them acquire skills and be able to “stand up and also do something that can go unto the global market”.

He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the skills they have acquired and also urged parents to support their wards to acquire additional skills.

Head of State Awards Schemes in 2022 shortlisted Genius IT from the Volta region to be a youth training agency.

The three year old NGO in the past years trained over 560 persons in IT.
