Prolific Ghanaian filmmaker, Redeemer Mensah, after a long break from the screen, is back as the “General Surgeon” in Ghana’s premiere medical drama, ‘Accra Medics’
Mr Mensah, who started acting in his secondary school days at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School and was elected as the Entertainment Prefect and Drama Club President during his era, is known as one of the best production managers in Ghana, for the productions of most of the works from Revele Films like “Run Baby Run,” “Home Sweet Home,” “Once Upon a Time in Ghana,” “Elmina,” “Hotel Saint James,” “Mr. Ibu in Ghana,” etc.
According to him, one of his favourite characters is his role as a waiter in the TV series “Hotel St. James”. “It was intriguing, and I played it to the best of my ability.”
Talking about his role in “Accra Medics,” he said, “I mean, it feels good to be a cast member of Ghana’s first ever medical TV series; it’s truly humbling, to say the least, to have the opportunity to work with such a talented and experienced group of professionals.”
He added that, “As a trained counsellor and coach, it’s a pleasure having to play a general surgeon, which is nowhere close to my real profession, and the peculiarity about Accra Medic is obviously that it’s a medical series.”
Redeemer also studied at the Ghana Institute of Journalism to complete his media and communication studies diploma. He recently graduated from London Metropolitan University with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Counseling and Psychotherapy. He has a keen interest in sports, watching good films, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Due to his unique influence in the film industry, in 2010 he was honoured with an invitation to participate in the prestigious Tate Britain Talk. Growing up, he was featured in popular kids’ projects like Fun World and Kiddafest.
Mr. Mensah said he draws inspiration and influence from anyone with talent attempting to showcase their creative abilities to entertain and educate.
