Dr. Clement Apaak

The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak says the traitors and their collaborators who ensured that all the six ministerial nominees of President Akufo-Addo were approved will be exposed.

This comes on the back of the approval of all the six ministerial nominees by the President on Friday March 24, 2023 through secret balloting in the chamber.

At the end of secret voting, Kwabena Tahir Hammond who is the nominee to the Trade and Industry Ministry secured 154 Yes, 116 No votes. Mr. Bryan Acheampong, nominee to the Ministry of Agriculture had 167 Yes, 98 No votes and the rest of the nominees namely Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Mohammed Amin Adam, O.B Amoah and Dr. Stephen Amoah were all voted for by majority decision.

Commenting on the development, the Builsa South lawmaker expressed shock over the outcome of the voting.

“Approval of Ministers – Most devastating and disappointing outcome. Greed and treachery is our bane. Yet again we have failed to live up to expectations.

“The traitors will sure be exposed by their collaborators in no time,” Mr. Apaak stated in a tweet minutes after the voting.

Prior to the voting to decide the fate of the nominees, the Minority insisted on rejecting them until certain conditions including amendments to the controversial Constitutional Instrument (CI) from the Electoral Commission (EC).

The Minority on Thursday night during the debate on the approval of the nominees in the presence of their party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia questioned the refusal of President Akufo-Addo to cut down on the size of his government in the midst of the current economic crisis.

The National Democratic Congress had directed its MPs who form the Minority caucus to vote against President Akufo-Addo’s nominees.

But from the number of votes secured by the nominees, it is clear that some of the NDC MPs broke ranks with the party and voted in support of the nominees as both the NDC and NPP have 137 MPs each.
