The Minority in Parliament says they are ready to vote on President Akufo-Addo’s six new ministerial nominees on Friday March 24, 2023.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed the leadership of the Majority caucus to endeavor in getting all Members of Parliament on their side to chamber on Friday March 24, 2023.

The Minority Caucus is insisting on rejecting the six new nominees by President Akufo-Addo until certain conditions including amendments to the controversial Constitutional Instrument (CI) from the Electoral Commission (EC).

During the debate late Thursday night, the Majority also insisted the nominees, most of whom are MPs, are more than qualified to occupy the offices for which they were nominated.

The situation compelled the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin to defer decision on the report to Friday March 24, 2023.

Addressing the media in Parliament on March 24, 2023, the Minority leader stated that the move by his side is what the people of Ghana are calling for.

“Let me say that we in the NDC, Minority caucus, are prepared and ready to cast our votes for the people of Ghana. We stand ready as we speak and we are ready to vote now. Unfortunately the NPP seem panicking, they are afraid of their shadows and they are trying to run away from the votes.

He continued: “We insist on secret balloting and we will vote accordingly. We are optimistic and we strongly believe that the NDC Minority caucus will not betray the stands of the party and stands the people of Ghana have come together and ask us to implement.

“So we are urging our colleagues on the Majority side to come to the chamber now so that we can start the voting. We want the voting today and not any other day, it should be done today Friday March 24, 2023 and not any other day.”
