The Supreme Court has made its judgement that ordered Parliament to expunge James Gyakye Quayson’s name as Member of Parliament for Assin North available to the interested parties in the case.

The 35-page judgement is dated Monday, June 5, 2023, and signed by the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision about a fortnight ago ordered Parliament to expunge the name of James Gyakye Quayson from its records.

The Apex Court presided over by Justice Jones Dotse ruled that the Electoral Commission (EC) acted unconstitutionally in allowing the beleaguered Assin North MP to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections with no proof of him renouncing his Canadian Citizenship.

The plaintiff, Michael Ankomah-Nimfah filed the application following a judgment he secured at the High Court in Cape Coast injuncting Gyakye Quayson from holding himself as MP.

This is after the court ruled that by being a Canadian citizen, he was not qualified to contest as an MP in Ghana.
