The Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Dzifa Abla Gomashie has said the flooding that hit his constituents for the past two weeks is preventable.

The Ketu South Municipality has been hit with flooding for the past two weeks.

It has caused more than five thousand residents in the Municipality displaced, schools closed and the people are unable to go about their daily duties.

Speaking on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban Tuesday the lawmaker in the area said the government must be proactive on its mandate to serve Ghanaians and the people of Ketu South.

“What has happened now we could have prevented, we could dredge the lagoon, we could clear the path for the water and clear the debris and the filth under the culvert. We could stop people from building on waterways and filling the lagoon and building on water ways.

“There are things that human beings can do and there are things that nature and God does. It rains, all we know is that the Meteorology has told us that the rainy season is going to change, there is going to rain and we are sitting down waiting for disaster to happen,” Madam Gomashie stated.

She continued: “We have the expertise but we don’t have the well without. So why are we sitting for the disaster to happen? Just so that I Dzifa Gomashie can run my mouth. And chasing the State and powers to take care of us.”

Madam Gomashie stated that the lackadaisical attitude of the Municipal Chief Executive for the area towards residents at this difficult time is worrying.

“Unfortunately, almost two weeks before I went there with the media for this to be broadcast on many media houses. The representative of the President who has the Municipality under his care and has all the state agencies under his administration. But I have to leave Parliament and run there with the media before we are even talking about it.”
