A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Edudzi Tamakloe has called on Ghanaians to treat the lawsuit by Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Kenneth Kuranchie with disdain.

Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie has dragged the former president to the Supreme Court challenging Mr. John Mahama’s validity to contest in the 2024 General Elections.

He is seeking a total of 13 reliefs including but not limited to the following:

“A declaration that  on a true and proper interpretation of Article 66(1) and (2) of the 1992 constitution, a person seeking a second presidential term must be a sitting president

“A declaration that on a true and proper construction of Article 62 of the 1992 constitution, a former president of Ghana is not qualified/ eligible to seek election as President of Ghana.

“An order directed at John Mahama to fully disclose to parliament the terms of his engagement as a flag bearer of a political party.

“An order directed at John Mahama to seek parliamentary approval for his engagement as a flagbearer of a political party; or in the alternative an order directed at John Mahama to desist from his presidential ambitions,” portion of the lawsuit reads.

Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah the legal practitioner stated that the former President has not yet been served and is currently out of the country.

“Is there any bar to the number of times, what ridiculous thing is this? Can you imagine this, the level of poverty in this statement, I mean what is this?

“President Mahama is somewhere outside the country minding his business and engaging with people who matter. Treat this with, in fact, contempt,” Mr. Edudzi stated.

Meanwhile, The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has said that the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Kenneth Kuranchie, the interpretation is seeking from the Supreme Court cannot stop the people’s choice in the 2024 General Election.

Commenting on the matter, the Builsa South lawmaker indicated that former President John Mahama will win the 2024 election with a majority in Parliament.

“This lawsuit can’t stand in the way of the people’s choice. It only confirms what Ghanaians know, your (NPP) morbid fear of JM.

“He will win with a Parliamentary majority because he offers a superior alternative to your corrupt, reckless, galamsey, family/friends governance!” Dr. Apaak stated in a tweet.
