The Assin North Chiefs and Queen Mothers are calling on President Akufo-Addo to intervene in the on-going criminal prosecution of the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

Their call is to reinforce Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, Dormaahene’s call over the weekend for the government to discontinue criminal prosecution of Mr. Gyakye Quayson.

Mr. Gyakye Quayson is facing criminal charges brought against him after he lost his seat as Member of Parliament for Assin North.

He is accused of allegedly failing to renounce his dual citizenship status before filing to contest the 2020 Parliamentary election.

Addressing the journalists in Parliament on Tuesday July 4, 2023 the Chiefs and Queen Mothers of Assin North appealed to President Akufo-Addo and Attorney General to have mercy on the people of the area.

“We have not fought in Ghana before and it will never happen because we are Christian country. So we are asking that we all come together as one people. Particularly, the issue at court we are pleading with the government and the Supreme Court judge, the Attorney General should smoke the peace pipe so that Ghana will be a better place.

“The people of Assin North have demonstrated that they want Mr. Gyakye Quayson; they want him to serve them. So we want to say that whatever has happened President Akufo-Addo we the chiefs want you to look up to God and have mercy on the people of Assin North,” the Assin Breku Tsidormhene, Nana Tufohene Frimpong-Baah stated.

He continued: “Because Assin North really lacks development. We were not heard before but now that everyone is mentioning our name. We are asking that the government will help us so peace will prevail in Assin North.”
