The Dawuman State Council in Eastern region has celebrated Dreams FC for their sterling performance in just ended football season.

Dreams FC were crowed champions of the 2022/23 MTN FA Cup competition after they defeated King Faisal 2-0 at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.

The champions, aside winning the ultimate trophy plus a cash amount of GH¢80,000,earned a spot to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederations Cup next season, alongside the Premier League champions, Medeama, who will compete in the CAF Champi­ons League.

Dreams FC has for sometime now adopted the Dawu Sports Stadium as their home ground .

Management and playing body of the club therefore decided to celebrate their FA cup win with the Chief of the Dawu State, the Dawuman Council and the great people of Dawu.

Odeneho Asare Akyeahene III, Omanhene of Dawu State, Okere, commended the club for reviving the spirit of football years after its indigenous club- Dawu Youngsters FC which played top- flight for nine consecutive seasons from 1990/91 to 2001/2002 when it was relegated from Ghana premier league.

He pledged the continuous support of the chiefs and people of the area to Dreams FC in the next football season and their CAF Confederation cup.

Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi, member of Dawuman Council said, football and sports in general have the potential of empowering the youth and unlocking many economic opportunities for growth of the area therefore the traditional council is committed to partner sports investors to leverage on the conducive football climate of the area develop various sporting disciplines.

Sports has potential of economically empowering the youth and be used as a tool for national development. So w e in Okere here support anything sports .As we speak there are young guys here are lifting the flag/ name of Okere high through sports. Now we have a Team called Okere Rangers, which is playing in the FA National Beach Soccer Premier League. They’re the only Team from non Coastal Region/ Town and are not doing bad in the league log,” he told Starr News.

Lawyer Larbi who doubles as Chairman of Eastern Regional Legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a former parliamentary aspirant in Okere during the just ended primaries, stated further that “Ghana is a football loving nation and the Great people of the Dawu State are no exception. In fact anyone who knows the history of Dawu would always remember the great exploits of the Dawu Youngsters Football Club back in the days. So we assure you of our full support to feel at home in the your CAF campaign”

Amongst the dignitaries at the event were prominent members of the Dawuman Council Okatakyie Seth Yeboah former Chairman of the Dawu Youngsters Football Club and presently Tufuhene of Dawu State, chief of Apirede who was special guest of honour, as well as DCE for Okere Daniel Kenneth.
