The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected the District Health Directorate Office of Upper West Akyem Assembly in the Eastern region for non-payment of Ghc35,000 debt.

The district health directorate was disconnected about a month ago thereby disrupting administrative activities at the office.

Starr News sources indicate that the debt was inherited from the assembly when it occupied the facility before relocating to its permanent office.

The Ghana Health Service has however been paying its monthly bills since allocated the facility therefore not indebted, but, according to ECG the arrears on the meter incurred by the assembly must be paid  before power is restored.

When contacted, the District Chief Executive for Upper West Akyem, Eugene Sackey confirmed the disconnection and debt but declined further comment.
