Political Historian, Kweku Darko Ankrah has warned the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of a possible more key party person breaking away from the party.

Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on Tuesday, Mr. Ankrah stated that there upcoming events such as the parliamentary primaries among others when not managed well will cause deeper cracks with the NPP.

“In elections one day is a long day so it all depends on some of the developments that will occur. What will happen in the government, what will happen in the major opposition party.

“Mind you there is going to be parliamentary primaries, there is going to be a fallout. What Alan has done is the tip of the iceberg. What is going to happen is people will say let’s wait and see, maybe Alan has engaged in something without thinking about it. The fairness that he is talking about may be still there,” Mr. Ankrah stated.

He continued “When they NPP go for the Parliamentary primaries and people continued to see that the existing political situation within the party. Like all the people on the Akufo-Addo or Bawumia line have really gotten elected it will trigger another cause for people to move out of the party to join Alan.”

This follows Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the NPP effective September 25, 2023 and his decision to contest the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.

His announcement comes after he withdrew from the NPP’s flag bearer race citing alleged intimidation and abuse of his supporters among others.

Delivering his address Mr. Kyerematen noted that even though he conducted himself well in the party in the lead up to the super delegates’ conference, the decision of the NPP’s national council was unmeritorious and unconstitutional.
