Fans have expressed their surprise at Manchester United star Andre Onana’s finishing position for the 2023 men’s Ballon d’Or award.
The annual ceremony takes place in Paris tonight, but award organisers France Football have already started counting down the result for each of the 30 players who have been nominated for the men’s award.
Manchester City defender Ruben Dias finished in the 30th and final spot, with the likes of Jamal Musiala, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard all finishing outside of the top 20.
United goalkeeper Onana, meanwhile, finished in 23rd position – ahead of both Saka and Odegaard.
Given his struggles at Old Trafford so far this season, some fans were surprised to see the shot-stopper ranked so highly.
Taking to X (Twitter), one wrote: “So Andre is better than Saka ok.”
Another added: “How tf is he above Dias?”
A third simply wrote: “Undeserved.”
Other fans, though, believed the Cameroon international should have been ranked even higher, given his superb form in helping Inter Milan to last season’s Champions League final.
One wrote: “Well deserved. He did well before Manchester United.”
Another said: “Best goalkeeper in the world being ranked 23rd…”
A third exclaimed: “He was good in the last UCL and he is also out of the top 20.”
