The Ghana Statistical Service is pushing for the utilization of technological tools to help improve the understanding of the economy.

Despite the development of a Stats Online Bank, Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim says there is need to harness different platforms that serve as a one stop portal for all policymakers.

“The objective of the statistical service and work in the past has focused on data production and we have come to realize there is a gap between the production and the usage so we continue to harness different platforms so we can increase the uptake of data”, he told Starr Business on the sidelines of the National Statsbank Hackathon challenge.

The event had teams across five public universities competing to develop innovative statistical products to promote data inclined decision-making.

“In recent time, we have developed some digital platforms including the statistic online bank and our hope is that it will be a one stop place for all users that integrate different data sets to help us understand the complex challenges we have as a country”, he added.

The statistical service is hopeful the teams at the end of the 4 day challenge will develop products that point to direct policy issues and also use AI to make data readily accessible by all and synchronize statistics from different policy makers.
