Farmers in Sokpoe, in the South Tongu district of the Volta region who were adversely impacted by the Akosombo dam spillage floods have received support from the Deeper Christian Life Ministry.

The donation which was done on Friday, December 15, 2023 through Deeper Life Aid (DLAiD) a non-profit organization of the church is intended to offer some relief to the affected persons especially farmers whose investments have been destroyed by the floods.

Items donated include food items such as bags of maize, rice, beans, gari, gallons of cooking oil, clothing among others.

Programs Officer for Deeper Life Aid, Sarah Soubogbiree told journalists that the items were mobilized from members of the church from across the country to support the victims.

She indicated the church’s commitment to offer continuous assistance to the victims but was quick to call on government to mobilize funds towards livelihood restoration for the displaced victims.

Pastor Joseph Bonnah, a Divisional Overseer of the Church mentioned that the gesture is in line with the teachings of the Lord Jesus.

He said, “This is our core mandate as Christ said, you did not do it to your neighbor, you did not do it to me. So immediately we heard of the disaster, we announced to our church members to donate whatever they can donate to alleviate the hardship of the affected.”

The September/October disaster did not only displaced people but also caused huge investment loss to vegetable and fish farmers in the various communities along the Volta Lake.
