A 29-year old nurse with the Ketu South Municipal hospital, Divine Kporha who was adjudged the National Best Nurse for the year 2023 by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has returned home to a magnificent reception and homecoming durbar organized in his honour by the Aflao Traditional Council.

Divine returned home with a brand new Nissan Almera and other prizes.

Divine Kporha, a graduate of the University of Heath and Allied Sciences, Ho joined the Ketu South Municipal hospital in 2020 and currently serves in the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital having previously served at the Keta Municipal hospital.

The young nurse over the years has dedicated himself to mental health issues and community service helping provide water, toilet facilities to some communities in the region and also an ultra-modern neonatal intensive care unit for the Ketu South Municipal hospital through his foundation, Divine Kporha Charity Foundation with funding from the Australian High Commission.

For the year under review, Divine Kporha’s commitment to service delivery and client’s wellness as a nurse won him the District Best Nurse award.

He proceeded to win the Volta/Oti Regional Best Nurse award before being crowned with the ultimate, National Best Nurses/Midwives award by the GRNMA.

He told Starrfm.com.gh that, “I won the national best nurse not because I’m so powerful in the nursing and midwifery fraternity but because as a young nurse, I have dedicated myself to community service and volunteerism and the association that I belong to identified that and has decided to honor me.”

“I am very grateful, I am sure the Aflao Traditional Council, my colleagues and Ketu South will be proud that today, we have made history. I feel very honored and humbled that this honor has been done me and this can only be the doing if the Lord and I can only do more,” he added.

Divine Kporha has in the past won several awards demonstrating compassion, commitment and leadership in his career.

President of the Aflao Traditional Council and the Paramount Chief of the area, Torgbui Fiti Amenya V at the ceremony on Friday, commended Mr. Kporha and urged him not to rest on his laurels.

He took the opportunity to admonish young people within the traditional area to take their education seriously noting that, “today, education is everything.”
