The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has refuted claims that it intends sacking the Black Star’s coach, Chris Hughton ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Cote D’ivoire.

This comes on the back of rumors on the GFA considering to sack the Black Star’s coach over abysmal performance in recent times.

But speaking on GHOne TV with Lantam Papanko Thursday, Director of Communication at the GFA, Henry Asante Twum stated that the FA has no such intention of sacking the coach of the senior national team.

“On the verge of sacking him, with nine days to the AFCON? No! Chris is under a contract. We respect the contract. We have thrown out weight behind him and all of us have decided to put our shoulders to the wheel in order to make him successful in Cote D’ivoire.

“Everything he has asked for has been provided and he works in a serene and respectful atmosphere and he has the support of the leadership of the FA as well as the staff,” Mr. Asante stated.

He continued: “There is no doubt whatsoever with regards to the confidence of the FA in the coach. I am sure these questions emanate from things people write and opinions from people on social media, on radio and on TV.”

Mr. Asante however indicated that despite the challenges which the coach has admitted, the GFA will not sack him.

“A manager of his caliber and experience we have no doubt of his competence. Results have not been favorable in recent times, which he knows,” he added.
