Over one hundred patients have been identified for surgeries during the fourteenth edition of the Sandaare Community Health Outreach program last December.
Dr. Mwinengso Sandaare Sabastian since 2009 has offered annual health screening exercises in the area to improve the health conditions. The inception had only Daffiama and its environs benefiting.
The Medical professional expanded the program after winning as MP in 2016. The program now covers the whole constituency and since December 2021, he has resourced the Issa Health Centre surgical theatre to carry out surgeries during the exercise.
A team of Health Professionals is annually engaged by the Member of Parliament to scrutinize residents of any medical conditions in the area. Speaking to our reporter at the Daffiama Health Centre, Dr Sandaare said a healthy person has ‘a quality life’ and as such would continue to do the same for his constituents.
Dr. Justine Dakurah, the Medical Superintendent of the Lawra District Hospital who is a surgical specialist as part of the team in Issa disclosed that over 50 patients had been identified for surgeries and he is the only doctor available and described the situation as ‘very inadequate’.
He said farming is a contributing factor to hernia and as such was not surprised at the cases that pop out every year during the community outreach and screening.
Dr. Ernest Cheyuo who is the Medical Superintendent at the Issa Health Centre lauded the Member of Parliament for the annual intervention and called on other sponsors to come to their aid to help improve the quality of life of the people in the area.
“We had to set up the theatre as there were a lot of things that were not there for this outreach. By the grace of God and with the support of Hon. Dr, Sandaare, we are able to set up the place before the surgeries” he added.
