The Diaspora Affairs Directorate at the Office of the President has provided clarification on its decision to prevent the organizers of The Convention 2024, a pan-African event, from proceeding with the ceremony on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the Black Star Square.

This comes on the back of the New Africa Foundation event scheduled on Sunday December 7, 2024 at Black Star Square called off.

The organizers have accused the government of a last-minute cancellation despite prior approval in November 2023.

The event’s had notable speakers included Professor P. L. O. Lumumba, Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, Peter Obi and Julius Malema.

However, the Deputy Director Dr. Nadia Adongo Fynn explained in a statement that the decision was prompted by an unforeseen state event scheduled at the venue.
