The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western region has commended the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission of Ghana for a successful election so far.

Speaking to Starr News, the Western Regional Secretary of the NPP, Okatakyie Amankwah Afrifa indicated that he is impressed with the conduct of the election.

“The EC and Ghana Police have done so well, we owe them so much. I think at the end the party in general will express its appreciation to them. They have done very well, the provision of security as well as management of the election.

“I am even surprised that Shama here, they are saying that it’s left with 65 people, when we were at Kwesimintim it was left with about 21 people. So you realized that people came to vote early,” he stated.

Mr. Amankwah however added that it is their hope that with counting the security will map up strategy for successful end. 

The parliamentary primaries for the governing New Patriotic Party in areas with sitting Members of Parliament is currently on-going.

The party currently has 137 Members of Parliament.

Some of the incumbent Members of Parliament going for a reelection are facing stiff contests in constituencies such, Bantama in the Ashanti region and Adansi Asokwa in the Central region among others.

The party has a total of 326 aspirants cleared to contest the election in 100 constituencies in 15 regions out of the 16 regions because the party has no seat in the Oti region.

Meanwhile, the party has already elected candidates in areas when the party has no sitting Members of Parliament.
