In the latest cabinet reshuffle by President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has been relieved of his position as the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture.

The Deputy Energy Minister, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has been reassigned to take the helm of affairs at the Tourism Ministry.

The President’s decision to appoint new Ministers was contained in a press release dated February 14 announced by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer is also the MP for Sekondi. Before he was appointed the Deputy Minister for Energy, he was a lawyer with extensive corporate, commercial and finance sector practice experience. He served as Lead Attorney and Chief Executive of Messrs. Mercer & Company, a corporate and investment law firm based in Accra.

He was previously the head of the Legal Division of First Atlantic Bank; overseeing the Bank’s Legal, Company Secretarial, and Corporate Affairs Departments.

Before joining the First Atlantic Bank, Mr. Egyapa Mercer commenced his legal practice, initially as a pupil and subsequently as a Senior Associate at Messrs. Acquah-Sampson & Associates.

He is a member on the Constitutional, Legal & Parliamentary Affairs, the Privileges and the Special Budget Committees of Parliament.
