Multiple award-winning storyteller and news strategist, Joojo Cobbinah has joined EIB Network as Group Managing News Editor.
Joojo Cobbinah is a multiple award-winning storyteller and news strategist who has dedicated efforts to using media for social good.
Driven by an unwavering passion for social justice, he possesses a remarkable ability to shape the news narrative around developmental issues. As a former News Editor/Features at Joynews, Mr Cobbinah has successfully orchestrated impactful campaigns like the Ghana’s School of Shame garnering positive reviews and tangible results.
With a wealth of experience, strategic insight, and sound editorial judgment, Joojo is well-positioned to guide EIB News into the future.
Mr Cobbinah said, “I am greatly honoured to lead news at the EIB Network. I pledge to uphold the principles of accurate, impartial, and high-quality journalism. With the collaboration of our exceptionally skilled reporters and the necessary investment, we are dedicated to delivering content that will not disappoint our audiences.”
In 2019, his documentary project, “As If We Weren’t Human,” shed light on police and military brutalities, earning widespread acclaim and contributing to the compensation of victims. This work won him the Article 19 Prize awarded by the African Heights Foundation and the Open Society for West Africa.
His extensive work investigating violations in Ghana’s Witch Camps, where elderly women accused of witchcraft are banished, earned him the prestigious Vera Chirwa award from the Centre for Human Rights in South Africa.
The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has also awarded him a Human Rights Defenders Award for his extensive work on violations in Ghana’s alleged witches’ camp.
He has also won a Ghana Journalist Association award for Best Documentary for his work “Finding the Witch Hunters.”
The GJA has also awarded him for his exceptional reports on Health and Rural reporting in different years.
Mr Cobbinah holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies.
