Ghana secured gold in the men’s football tournament at the 2023 African Games, defeating Uganda in the final at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Jerry Afriyie scored the only goal for the Black Satellites, ensuring they repeated their heroics at the 2011 edition in Maputo.

Ghana started the game brilliantly but was disallowed for an infringement inside the box, despite their attempts to score within 20 minutes.

Ghana made a close attempt through Abdul Hakim Sulemana in the first half, but the match remained tied due to a lack of goals.

Both teams headed into the break with nothing to separate them.

Desmond Ofei’s team maintained their dominance at Accra Sports Stadium, capturing the game against Ugandans.

Ghana’s press remained focused on the winner, but With just added time, Ofei’s side managed to make a breakthrough.

Afriyie scored a low strike, beating Uganda’s goalkeeper, to give Ghana the lead.

The Satellites secured gold in the tournament, while Uganda won silver and Senegal won bronze.
