Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng, a Political Science Lecturer at KNUST, has described Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, the running mate of John Mahama for the 2024 General Election, as the optimal choice, urging the party to unite behind her.

“Prof. Jane Naana brings credibility and a sense of dignity to governance. One notable trait of women is their prudent resource management. We anticipate her instilling discipline in governance,” he told Kojo Marfo, host of Bresosem on Abusua FM in Kumasi.

Further extolling her qualities, Dr. Amakye Boateng argued that Prof. Jane Naana is incorruptible, stating, “If she were corrupt, Ghanaians would have exposed her long ago.”

He advised the party to strategize on leveraging the appeal of having a female candidate and to effectively market the unique advantage it brings to the campaign.

Dr. Amakye Boateng also contended that while other names considered for the vice-presidential candidate slot in the NDC were formidable individuals with impressive accomplishments, retaining Prof. Jane Naana was one of the wisest decisions that could have been made.

Regarding the dynamics in the Ashanti Region. Dr. Amakye Boateng supported the notion that selecting a vice-presidential candidate from the region could have benefitted the party.

Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in the party’s ability to make inroads due to its track record of development initiatives in the region.

He criticized the NDC’s leadership in the region for their perceived weakness in promoting their achievements, insisting; “I’ve always maintained the party in the region is very weak. They must mobilize available human resources to bolster the campaign efforts and assure the region that NDC will prioritize their development needs.”
