Parliament has summoned Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah over illegal charges by the Ghana Airport Company (GAC).

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu drew the attention of the house to a letter announcing $10 maintenance fees for all round trips.

The charge according to the communication is to take effect in May.

The former Minority leader questioned the legal basis for such a fee.

“Mr. Speaker I am holding in my hand a letter dated 11th March 2024 from the Ghana Airport Company introducing maintenance charges of $10 to be charged and $20 maintenance on all round trip airlines,” Mr. Iddrisn disclosed.

Second deputy speaker Andrew Asiamah who was presiding consequently directed the sector Minister to brief the house on the matter next week on Tuesday.

“With regards to this particular issue, I am directing the Minister for Transport to appear before the house on the 19th March 2024 that is next week Tuesday to come and address this particular issue.

“Because the Airport Company cannot seat by themselves and say they are increasing charges on their own. So that is my directive,” Joe Wise directed.
