The Communication Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, says the banking sector cleanup the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) embarked upon in 2017 was long overdue.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, the Bawumia Campaign Communication Director stated “It was something that should have been done five years before 2017.”
According to him, the amount quoted as used for the banking sector clean-up was one of the most misrepresented facts.
“That was one of the most misrepresented facts ever, that when you say that. If you have 12 million it does not mean the banks will survive. How many banks were given 800 million cedis to survive and they squandered the money? Some of these collapsed banks were given 800 million of our money.
“So it was not as if the country did not try, these banks were given money by the country on several occasions. Some of them were given once they squandered it. They were given it twice they squandered it, they were given it thrice and they squandered it. And you saying that when we had the chance to fix it we should still give them money? Does it add up?” Mr. Aboagye stated.
He said Ghanaians must know that it is not true that the governing New Patriotic Party had a chance to save these banks and never did.
Dr. Bawumia’s campaign Communication Director stated the country actually attempted to save these banks but support went under the drain.
