President of Ghana Athletics, Bawa Fuseini who doubles as the General Secretary of Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Zone II says that Ghana decided to host the upcoming athletics championship because the organisers found the facilities in Ghana as top quality.

Speaking on GHOne’s The Game show, Bawa Fuseini pointed out that the quality of facilities and proper organisation at the African Games displayed by Ghana informed the decision of the CAA to choose Ghana as host of the championship after Benin was initially chosen to host.

“After the African Games, the CAA and World Athletics were excited about what they saw, and they confided in me and pleaded that Ghana host this championship,” Bawa said on the show.

“The Confederation has asked Ghana to bid for the 2026 African Champions as well,” an elated Bawa added.

The University of Ghana Stadium will host the 2-day athletics championship that will see 15 West African countries participate.

The tournament will begin on the 4th of June and end on the 5th of June and will serve as a channel of qualification to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
