WOMEN RELAY TEAM

Bawa Fuseini, General Secretary of Confederation of African Athletics zone two, says Ghana Athletics’ first target for the games in Ghana is for the women’s relay team to qualify for the upcoming Olympic Games in July.

He revealed in an interview on GhOne tv with Benjamin Yamoah that there are only two remaining qualification slots for the Olympic Games.

“With this particular event, our first target is to get the ladies 4×100 relay team qualified and luckily for the past weeks they’ve really stepped up their performances, our four athletes can easily run sub 42 seconds in the relay and if they do that it’s a sure qualification”.

“The world, there is only two slots left for the female relays, so we know it’s very tough, but the girls are capable”, he said.

Bawa Fuseini also indicated that the second target is to ensure both men and women sprinters secure slots for the Olympics Games.

“Secondly the athletes who have not qualified yet, we want them to run the required time to secure qualification to the olympics”.

A total of 450 athletes from 15 countries will compete in the sub-regional competition in Accra at the University of Ghana stadium.
