The leadership of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana is praising transport policies by Flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama to establish a pension scheme for drivers.

The group believes policies such as establishing pension schemes, offering commercial drivers high-purchase vehicles, ultramodern bus terminals among others across the country resonates with them hence their support for the NDC Flag bearer.

Speaking to Starr News, Deputy National Secretary for Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana Evans Owiredu stated that this will help transform the transportation sector and improve their living conditions.

It follows John Dramani Mahama disclosing that he will establish pension schemes for drivers in their retirement years when he met with executives of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, GPRTU in Accra, as part of his campaign for the upcoming December 7 elections.

The group however cautioned the NDC Flag bearer against turning his back on the policy adding that its members are ready to throw their weight behind the NDC for victory in 2024.

“It’s the first time a key political figure has announced clearly to drivers policy interventions that would not only be beneficial to our sector but to also ensure our welfare.

“Amidst our despair based on the current economic condition in the country, the NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has mentioned some policies offering a gleaming hope, which includes the following; higher purchase, pension scheme, ultra-modern bus terminal and driver’s day. With the higher purchase, we trust this intervention to make vehicle ownership easier for players in the transportation sector.

“We therefore find this intervention to be one that will bring so much relief to us,” he added.
