In a significant development for Ghana’s petroleum industry, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) has been directed to resume its monitoring operations of the Downstream Petroleum sector.

This directive comes into effect from June 14, 2024, following Presidential Directives based on the KPMG report.

Julie Essiam, the Commissioner-General, announced this in a statement, emphasizing the importance of the resumed operations. “We wish to inform you that Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) has been directed to resume its monitoring operations of the Downstream Petroleum sector with effect from 14th June 2024 in accordance with the Presidential Directives on the KPMG report,” Mr. Essiam stated.

The resumption of SML’s operations is aimed at ensuring that all monitoring systems within the sector are fully operational and compliant with the relevant standards and regulations. The primary objective is to deliver accurate, reliable, and timely monitoring services to support revenue assurance.

Mr. Essiam highlighted the critical role of the Bulk Oil Distributors in this exercise, urging their cooperation to ensure its success. “The Bulk Oil Distributors are to cooperate to ensure a successful resumption of the monitoring exercise,” she added.

This move is expected to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the Downstream Petroleum sector, bolstering efforts to ensure proper revenue collection and compliance within the industry.
