Most clients and staff of the Zebilla District Hospital were left in shock when it emerged that a week-old baby went missing at the maternity ward under bizarre circumstances.

Narrating the incident in an exclusive interview with Starr News‘ affiliate Zebs FM, madam Zangina Grace, a midwife on duty indicated that the mother of the baby gave birth on 25th May 2024 through Cesarean Section.

According to her, on Saturday evening,  the mother of the baby made friends with a stranger who posed as a patient relative and handed over the baby to her while she went to take her bath. Apparently, the imposter had a male accomplice.

“When she returned, the man and the lady were not to be found. They left with the baby. So it has been very sad.”

Speaking to Zebs FM, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Ayobi Abdul-Rahaman confirmed the news and disclosed that the police were immediately informed of the incident.

Dr. Ayobi hinted that some leads that may aid the arrest of the kidnappers have been found and given to the police. He is therefore optimistic that the culprits will be found.

He, however, bemoaned the apparent disregard of the hospital’s policy on visitations and other security measures by clients.

Dr. Ayobi indicated that the management of the hospital will soon meet to review this unfortunate incident and fashion out plans to forestall future occurrences.

The grieving mother, Felicia Paul Dery, who could barely speak, has pleaded with the general public to help her find her baby.
