Coach Nurudeen Amadu

Coach of Ghana Premier League Champions, Samartex 1996, Nurudeen Amadu has confessed that he never expected his outfit to win the league this season.

The experienced tactician, speaking on GHOne TV’s sports show The Game expressed his gratitude to his players, entire staff, fans and the management team but was quick to point out that winning the league wasn’t expected at the start of the season.

“Since we started leading the league, then we realised that we were on course but at the beginning, we didn’t have any clue as to whether we would win the league or not”, a smiling Nurudeen said.

“Previously, we battled relegation before I came, so my dream was to put the team in a respectable position in the league, so honestly, we didn’t think of winning the league, he added.

The Timber Giants club, who finished 10th with 46 points in their debut season in the 22/23 season, beat Bibiani Gold Stars 1:0 to open a 9-point gap between themselves and their closest contenders Aduana Stars who had lost 1:0 at Bechem.

Samartex FC now have a total of 58 points and will be coronated and crowned on the final day of the season when they play Accra Lions at home.
