The Wa West Member of Parliament and a member of the Committee that probed the leaked tape, Peter Lanchene Toobu says President Akufo-Addo did not appoint the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare based on a report.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Francis Abban, the Wa West lawmaker stated that the President has the prerogative to decide who to appoint and who not to appoint as IGP.

“Whatever it is. It’s the prerogative of the President. The President never appointed Dr. George Akuffo Dampare based on a report, he appointed George Akuffo Dampare based on the fact that he believed that he could manage the police to ensure that he achieves his objective as the President of the Republic of Ghana.

“Nobody is in his mind to see whether he is satisfied with the performance of the IGP or not. So if he decides to appoint a new IGP that is his prerogative and he says Dr. George Akuffo Dampare continue with your good work that is his prerogative. I don’t think that a report is what will direct the President to do what he is supposed to do or what he is not supposed to do,” the former Police chief stated.

He continued: “The truth is that there are several reports in this country that require the President to act but he has never done it. There are several reports not to act on a particular matter but he acted. So let’s not link this report to the rumor.”
