Global InfoAnalytics says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagship policy Free Senior High School has lost its potency as an election-winning issue.

Speaking on GHOne TV with Naa Dedei Tettey on the unveiling of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate, who spearheaded the policy, the Chief Executive Officer of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Danquah indicated that the government will be given some credit for the policy and “those who are going to vote for them because of free education are still there”.

“But what we have seen in the poll is that the free education has lost its potency as an election-winning issue. The policy itself if you ask voters, and they will say look they know it has come to stay”, he added.

He further stated that the issue of cancellation has also been forcefully dealt with by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their flag bearer John Mahama.

“They send some fear among voters that anybody who wants to remove the free education must be punished. So they will do a poll to see which issue will let people react to. Then it is a fear of canceling it, then you will see people reacting on ‘let’s go and kick him out because they say they may cancel it’.

“That is why we saw Mahama coming out boldly over the weekend to say that it has come to stay to neutralize that allegation made against him that he will cancel,” Mr. Danquah stated.

According to him, the issue with Ghana’s education now is the challenges.

He further stated that if the next enrollment for free SHS is not smooth before the December election the government “could be punished” over agitations from parents.

“I don’t know when the next batch will go to school. If it coincides before the election and it is not smooth the government could be punished”, Mr. Danquah stated.
