Lydia Forson, a renowned Ghanaian actress, writer, and producer, has opened up about her decade-long struggle with fibroids in a heartfelt post on X, formerly known as Twitter, in observance of Fibroid Awareness Month. The ‘Scorned’ star’s candid revelation aims to shed light on the often overlooked pain many women endure and to encourage them to seek medical help.

“July is Fibroid Awareness Month. To the women who’ve had to live in constant pain, multiple surgeries, questions about children, if you’re pregnant because of how you look, or the fear that you never will; you’re not alone,” Forson shared. “I lived in pain for 10 years before I got help.”

Forson described the intense pain and the fear she experienced over the years. “Today I’m grateful that I don’t have to live in so much pain, grateful that no one else will find me on a bathroom floor too paralyzed to move. Grateful that I don’t have to be rushed into an emergency and even more grateful that I’m alive to share my story when some aren’t.”

Her story, she says, is more complex than what she has shared publicly. Yet, she hopes it will inspire other women to take proactive steps regarding their health. “My story is a lot more complicated than I’ve shared, and this is just a summary. But to any woman reading this, I do hope you’re inspired to run tests, ask questions about your body, and also not feel so alone with the things you have to live with.”

Forson’s openness about her health challenges is a significant step in raising awareness about fibroids, a condition that affects many women globally but is often surrounded by silence and stigma. Her call to action is clear: women should not suffer in silence but instead seek the medical attention and support they need
