The Minority in Parliament has charged the government to immediately find funds to settle about six billion Ghana cedis indebtedness of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Secretariat instead of engaging in a needless debate.

Addressing the media ranking member for the committee on Education Peter Nortsu-Kotoe revealed only 10% of the total amount due to the supplier of the 1 student 1 tablet has been paid.

The Akatsi North MP further disclosed the upcoming WASSCE is in danger as a result of the government’s indebtedness of 224 million cedis to WAEC.

According to him other suppliers to the free SHS Secretariat have equally not been spared including even those who supply palm oil among others.

“As we speak now the financial burden is just too much and going through the roof and from where I sit I can say information available to me indicates that over six billion is being owed to companies, individuals, and organizations in relation to Free Senior High Schools.

“Those who supplied school uniforms two years ago, the government owes them. Those who supply food items, even palm oil a year ago, the secretariat still owe and many other things.

“Putting all these together it’s also about 300 million Ghana cedis. so this six billion Ghana cedis which is now a debt on the neck of Free Senior High School secretariat must be settled.”
