The President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has criticized Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh for claiming that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caused more river pollution during their time in office than the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Boafo labeled Annoh-Dompreh’s remarks as “irresponsible” and condemned the political bickering, saying it distracts from the real issue.

“Such an irresponsible statement by a member of Parliament is symptomatic of the malaise affecting our dear nation,” he stated.

Speaking at the GBA’s 2024/2025 annual general conference in Kumasi, Mr. Boafo accused the Majority Chief Whip of engaging in “cheap political point-scoring” instead of tackling the growing menace of illegal mining.

“Unfortunately, it has degenerated into a political football match between the major political parties as to who polluted the water the most,” he stated.

The GBA President called on the government to intensify its fight against illegal mining by targeting the powerful individuals who are alleged to be fueling the act. He said combating galamsey requires more than just public uproar or sensationalism in the media. “We will play the ostrich at our future if we pretend as we are now,” he warned.
