Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has announced his decision to withdraw from any political affiliations and to rather concentrate or focus on his humanitarian projects to help Ghanaians.
In a statement, Gyan indicated his involvement with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been unfair to the youth of Ghana, and now plans to devote himself to empowering young people through the projects of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
“I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth, I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election in the 7th December elections. God bless our homeland, Ghana. portions of the statement read.”
Gyan, previously served as chairman for the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee of the NPP, actively supported Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign earlier this year.
However, the Black Stars forward has confirmed that he will no longer be involved in partisan politics.
He further expressed his commitment to continuing his humanitarian works without political interference and wished for a peaceful election on December 7, 2024.
Asamoah Gyan is the all-time top scorer in Ghana, with 51 goals.
