A Sports Infrastructure expert and the CEO of Blaze Investments, Alhaji Salifu Sinkare has advised the Sports Ministry to consider the installation of Hybrid Pitches at the Accra and Baba Yara Stadia in the wake of the growing challenges of the quality of the pitches.

This comes after CAF withdrew its approval for category three games over several concerns with the quality of the pitch at the venue.

Ghanaian football fans have shown concerns over the poor maintenance of the natural grass pitches at the various national stadiums.

The facility at Baba Yara in Kumasi has been the only licensed stadium in Ghana to host CAF category 3 matches from February 2022, until the Ghana Football Association on Wednesday, September 11, announced the decision of the Confederation of African Football to ban the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting international matches due to the devastating state of the pitch leading to a lot of backlash at the sports Ministry, NSA and government for the poor maintenance culture.

Sports Infrastructure Expert Alhaji Salifu Sinkare wants the Sports Ministry to install FIFA-approved hybrid pitches at the Accra and Kumasi sports stadiums as a lasting solution to the poor pitches at the two facilities. Speaking in an interview, the sports infrastructure expert said the hybrid pitch is more ideal than the natural grass or astroturf.

‘’It will cost Ghana about 1 million dollars to install the hybrid pitch, but it offers the solution to the problems associated with the pitches. it is easier to maintain the hybrid pitch than any other type of pitch. The players who also play in Europe and other parts of the world find the hybrid pitch more conducive than the others’’. He added.

Ghana is racing against time to find a venue for the next international games following the ban on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium by CAF, and the need for a quick lasting solution is prime.
