The 2024 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to split the Shai Osu Doku Constituency into two separate constituencies if elected president in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
The former president explained the move was to decentralize local governance and fair distribution and of resources for national development.
He made these remarks during a community engagement at Dodowa as part of his campaign tour of the Greater Accra region.
He mentioned that it had taken his entourage hours to get to Dodowa from Shai Osudoku “one, because the road is bad and two because the constituency is huge”.
He continued: “Luckily there is an opportunity to demarcate constituencies and districts next year when the NDC comes into office. And so we will consider splitting Shai Osudoku into two constituencies.”
The Shai Osudoku constituency, located in the Greater Accra Region is a stronghold of opposition National Democratic Congress. In 2020, former President Mahama carried the constituency in a massive landslide as incumbent Member of Parliament, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo won more than two thirds of the votes cast.
