The nominees for the 2024 Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK (GMA UK) were revealed in grand style at a star-studded event held at YAYA La Parisienne in Labone on September 7. Artists, managers, and music industry insiders gathered to celebrate the highly anticipated announcement ahead of the main event, scheduled for October 19 in London.
Alordia, one of the lead organizers, expressed his excitement in an interview with GHOneTV: “This year marks the eighth edition, and every year we raise the bar. This year will be something else, from the promotion to the artists, production—everything will be awesome.” He emphasized that the team is focused on delivering an unforgettable experience for music lovers worldwide.
Kwasi Ernest, another key organizer, echoed these sentiments, highlighting how the awards reflect current trends in Ghanaian music. “TABIA has been instrumental in advancing the creative arts, especially through this platform. Our categories reflect current trends and celebrate the achievements of our artists across genres like gospel, reggae, Afrobeat, and highlife,” he said. Ernest also assured attendees that the awards process is both thorough and transparent, involving checks across social media, streaming platforms, and release dates.
Artist manager Sammy Flex, representing Shatta Wale, spoke proudly of the Shatta Movement’s nomination for Artiste of the Year. “For the past 20 years, we’ve been active, always working, and this consistency is recognized in every award scheme. This year’s nomination is a testament to Shatta Wale’s work ethic and the support of the strongest fan base in the world,” Flex said. He also noted the financial challenges faced by independent artists in Ghana, commending Taabea’s sponsorship and urging for continued support to keep the awards thriving.
The 2024 GMA UK features 26 categories, recognizing the best of Ghanaian music from both Ghana and the UK. Notable nominees for the prestigious Artiste of the Year award include Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Amerado. Meanwhile, the competition for UK-based Artiste of the Year will see Joseph Matthew, Akubless, Drogo47, Danny Lampo, and others vying for the title.
Fans and music lovers are encouraged to vote for their favorite nominees in each category, with voting now open until the awards night. Powered by Alordia Productions, the Taabea Ghana Music Awards UK promises to be a landmark event celebrating Ghanaian music talent worldwide.
