Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, Samuel Adu Boakye, has disclosed that only 7 out of 47 Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region have responded to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s call to support the renovation of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

On November 10, 2023, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II launched the Heal Komfo Anokye Project to renovate the 70-year-old GEE block. During the launch, the Asantehene urged MPs in the region to donate to the project and appealed to the people of Asanteman and Ghana to contribute, as it is part of his 25th Anniversary Legacy Projects.

However, in an interview with Kojo Marfo on Abusua Nkommo, Samuel Adu Boakye stated that only seven MPs have donated so far. He named the donors as Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), Muntaka Mubarak, Eugene Boakye Antwi, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Asenso Boakye, Kyei Mensah Bonsu, and Adelaide Ntim of Nsuta/Kwaman Beposo.

Adu Boakye expressed concern that not only MPs but also Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and CEOs of state institutions in the region are neglecting the king’s call.

“We have 43 MMDCEs in the Ashanti Region, but only Sam Pyne, the KMA mayor, donated 20,000 cedis on the launch day,” he said. He then added, “We haven’t received a penny from the CEOs of state institutions in the region.”

Samuel Adu Boakye’s revelation highlights the hypocrisy of some individuals claiming to be Asante natives and part of the current administration, yet they are not supporting their own king, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in his efforts to renovate the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Adu Boakye also acknowledged Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah’s contribution of 50,000 cedis on the launch day.
