President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has rubbished claims that the government provides the FA with money and funding.

The Ghana FA has, over the years, been accused of misappropriation of the tax payers money especially on the back of poor performance by the Black Stars in recent tournaments with accusations of tournament budgets been inflated for personal gain.

However, responding to questions during a Parliamentary Select Committee hearing on Monday, Kurt Okraku made it clear that the GFA has no control over finances and Budgets related to national teams.

“For the record, the government of Ghana doesn’t give GFA any money. The Ministry of Youth and Sports funds all national team-related activities. No money comes into the GFA’s coffers from the government,” Okraku said.

He further explained that the Sports Ministry handles all financial transactions, including budgets and payments for tournaments and qualification games.

An accountant from the Ministry of sports oversees these costs, with the GFA having no involvement.

“Monies used for national teams are paid to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. They make all statutory payments. No cedi comes to the FA,” Okraku added.

Kurt Okraku’s appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee followed similar appearances by the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, Fmr Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah, and others.
