President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his support behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the 2024 presidential election, pointing to Bawumia’s ability to engage with younger voters and his contributions to key reforms.

Speaking in an interview with France24 on October 5, 2024, President Akufo-Addo expressed faith in Dr Bawumia’s campaign, noting the vice president’s message resonates well with the youth. “I believe that first of all, he is waging a good campaign. He has a message that is resonating especially with the young people in Ghana,” the president stated.

Dr. Bawumia’s focus on youth inclusion, coupled with the NPP government’s accomplishments over the past eight years, is viewed by Akufo-Addo as central to the party’s strategy for 2024. The president highlighted significant progress in areas like education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the digital economy, positioning these achievements as a strong basis for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign.

“The Ghanaian people know that the nearly eight years we were in office were not wasted. We did a lot, of major reforms in education, in our health system, in our road infrastructure, in the development of the digital economy,” President Akufo-Addo stressed.

Akufo-Addo also praised Bawumia’s fresh ideas, particularly those aimed at empowering young Ghanaians. “He has brought some new ideas to the surface, especially how the young people can get involved in developing themselves and the nation’s economy. That is what is giving me confidence that he is going to win. I believe that he will win,” the president voiced.
